Module 1 Playlist

This playlist is an introduction to physical activity, why physical activity is so important and how we can increase our physical activity levels in a safe way. We also include Breathing, Posture and Stretching activities!

Module 2 playlist

This playlist covers sensory processing and teaches you to dance the Locomotion, the Cha Cha Slide and the Macarena!

module 3 playlist

This playlist takes a closer look into the relationship between sensory processing and physical activity. We discuss the benefits of physical activity from a sensory perspective, as well as provide suggestions on how to make physical activity part of your everyday routine. We also provide an Animal Walk activity you can try at home!

Module 4 Playlist

This playlist covers the environment and how to support participation in physical activity from a sensory perspective. We also include a fun activity called Freeze Dance!

Need Addressed:

People with developmental disabilities experience higher rates of obesity and heart disease, in part due to sedentary lifestyles.

Knowledge Shared:

Aptus’ Recreation and Occupational Therapists developed trainings and activities (for staff, families and people supported) that add sensory to fitness. The goal is to make fitness more attractive to people who have developmental disabilities.

Impact:

Aptus expected 3,905 people to be impacted over the 3 years of the project. Total number of people impacted by the project: 4,248. Our goal was also to train 305 staff and families on Sensory Workout. Total number of people trained: 325.

Videos have been shared in English and French across sectors in Ontario.

Generously Funded by:
