People with developmental disabilities experience higher rates of obesity and heart disease, in part due to sedentary lifestyles.
Aptus’ Recreation and Occupational Therapists developed trainings and activities (for staff, families and people supported) that add sensory to fitness. The goal is to make fitness more attractive to people who have developmental disabilities.
Aptus expected 3,905 people to be impacted over the 3 years of the project. Total number of people impacted by the project: 4,248. Our goal was also to train 305 staff and families on Sensory Workout. Total number of people trained: 325.
Videos have been shared in English and French across sectors in Ontario.
