Volunteer Program

Volunteer and Make a Difference!


Volunteering with Aptus and enhance the lives of others, and your own! 

  

Are you looking to invest your time and talents to give back in your community meet new people and have new experiences? Have you always wanted to work with children or adults? Do you have a passion for helping others gain independence and have new experiences? Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your skills in a meaningful way while seeking professional development opportunities?


Volunteering with Aptus Treatment Centre could be the right place for you.

Through careful recruitment, selection and supervision, our volunteers work in partnership with our dedicated staff to enhance our services and to achieve their personal and professional goals.

We are able to accommodate students in the following programs year round:

  • Supportive Living Services - 10 locations to choose from
  • Adult Day Services
  • Children’s Day Program- Toronto or York Campus

We have a variety of rewarding positions that include:

Administrative Volunteer

Assist staff with special projects and general office administrative duties. Applicants must possess accurate word processing skills and good working knowledge of the internet and Microsoft Office.

Program Volunteer

Interact with the people we support.  Organize and participate in individual or group play and recreational activities in one of our day programs or help our people supported during outings. There are many ways one can make a difference by assisting with program activities.

Special Events

Help by participating in a fundraising event. Be at the forefront of the planning process by helping with advertising, seeking out sponsorships, gift-in-kind and generating ticket sales. 

Sensory Camp

Volunteer at our annual two-week summer sensory camp, where you will help the people we serve have the true day camp experience.


In addition to the volunteer opportunities listed above, we also welcome volunteers with specialized skills and abilities and interested in sharing their talents with the people we serve. These may include: 


  • Artists
  • Dentistry or Nursing Students
  • Expressive Art Therapists
  • Skilled Trades (e.g., Painters, Crafters)

Programs and Requirements

Candidates should meet the following general criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age to volunteer within the programs or 16 years of age to volunteer at an event
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both verbal and written
  • Must demonstrate a high level of maturity to effectively support the unique needs of our clients, families, and staff. 

  

Some positions are short-term, while others require a longer commitment. Time, location, and skill requirements vary depending on the role. Our Human Resources team will work with you to understand your interests and expectations, and help find the right volunteer opportunity for you."

How Aptus Supports Volunteers

 When you become a volunteer with Aptus, your volunteer experience is important to us. 


We first ensure that the program you have chosen to volunteer in will be able to meet the needs and goals that you hope to achieve. We invest in our volunteers through orientations to set you up for success, understand about Aptus’s culture, provide you with the tools and resources that you will need and limit risk. Supervisors who support volunteers are engaged, professional and dedicated to ensuring each volunteer has a positive professional work environment

APPLICATION GUIDE

To help guide you through the application process please refer to the steps below.


Step One: Application

Complete and submit an application form for the opportunity that interests you.


If invited, submit your resume and cover letter expressing your interest in volunteering 


Please be advised that only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. Successful completion of the application process and participation in an interview does not guarantee a volunteer placement.


Step Two: Interview and Compliance Requirements

If you are selected for an interview, upon successful completion you will receive the necessary documentation required to complete the following: 

  • Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Occupational Health Requirements for TB and Immunization (Medical)
  • Proof of vaccination


Step Three: Orientation and Position Specific Training

Once the compliance requirements outlined in step two above are met, you will attend a mandatory orientation session and position specific training prior to the start of your volunteer position.
